Terms of use

Plain-language terms. The important ones are about what our results do and do not mean.

The service

NoWatermark provides free browser-based tools for inspecting and removing metadata from images and text. Processing happens on your device; we do not receive, store or process your files.

Your content and your rights

You must have the right to process any content you put into these tools. Removing provenance, attribution or copyright information from work you do not own may be unlawful in some jurisdictions, and may breach the terms of the platform you obtained it from. Responsibility for that rests with you.

No guarantee of undetectability

This is the most important thing on this page, so we will be direct about it.

  • We do not guarantee that content processed with these tools is undetectable as AI-generated, by any detector, now or in future.
  • The absence of a detected signal does not prove the absence of every watermark. Some watermarks — SynthID and statistical text watermarks among them — cannot be detected by any browser-based tool, so we can neither confirm nor deny their presence.
  • Removing a C2PA manifest does not necessarily prevent provenance from being recovered. Durable Content Credentials can be re-associated with an image by a provider using an invisible watermark or content fingerprint held in their own systems.

Disclosure obligations remain yours

Platform rules, professional codes, and legal requirements around disclosing AI-generated content apply regardless of what metadata a file carries. Removing a metadata field does not remove an obligation to disclose.

Results are provided as-is

The tools are offered without warranty of any kind. Scan results are our best interpretation of the data present in a file and may be incomplete or, for malformed files, incorrect. Always keep your original file: our cleaners never modify it, and produce a separate copy.

Acceptable use

Do not use these tools to facilitate fraud, impersonation, harassment, or the removal of ownership information from content belonging to other people.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of this site, including any consequence of relying on a scan result or of removing metadata from a file.
